This policy applies to the Waseelah mobile app (iOS/Android) and our website at waseelah.app.

Information we collect

• Approximate location (device permission, optional): used to calculate and display distance to nearby listings. The app works without location access; distance will simply be hidden.
• Calendar access (device permission, optional): used only when you choose Add to Calendar for an event. We do not read your existing calendar events.
• Photos/Camera (device permission, optional): used only if you choose to upload images when submitting a listing. Photos remain on your device unless you explicitly upload them.
• Usage and activity data: limited information about how the app is used, such as timestamps, device and app version details, approximate location context (for example, city or area), and in-app interactions (such as tabs viewed, searches performed, or listings opened). This data is used to understand usage patterns and improve the service; any reporting to partners/advertisers is shared only in aggregated form (for example, approximate user counts by area), not individual-level data.
• Content you submit: details you voluntarily provide in forms (for example, event, tutor, charity, or service information, addresses, links, and images). You choose what to submit.

How we use your information

• Show distance to listings based on your approximate location (if permission is granted).
• Create calendar events on your device when you tap Add to Calendar.
• Process, moderate, and display community listings you submit.
• Analyse aggregated usage and activity trends to understand what features and content are most useful to users.
• Understand general audience distribution (for example, approximate numbers of users by area or region) to support planning, reporting, and discussions with potential partners or advertisers.
• Maintain app security, reliability, and overall service improvement.

Legal bases (UK GDPR)

• Consent: location, photos/camera, calendar access (you can deny/withdraw in device settings).
• Legitimate interests: operating and improving the app, security and abuse prevention, moderation of user-submitted content, and analysing usage in aggregated form (including general audience distribution by area).

Sharing and disclosure

We do not sell personal information. Data may be shared only as necessary to provide core functionality, including with:

• Maps & directions services: Google Maps/Geocoding; Apple Maps or Google Maps when you open a location or directions.
• App distribution and infrastructure providers: Apple and Google (app stores), and service providers used to build, operate, and maintain the app.

We do not share personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

Retention

• Location and location context: used to calculate distance to listings and to understand general usage patterns by area (such as city or area). Location-related data is retained only for as long as necessary for operational analysis, reporting in aggregated form, and service improvement.
• Calendar: events saved to your device calendar persist until you remove them.
• Submitted content: kept while published, under moderation, or as required for legal or operational purposes.
• Usage and activity data: retained only for as long as necessary for security, operational analysis, aggregated reporting, and improving app performance and reliability.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you may request: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and to object to certain processing. You can also withdraw consent (e.g., disable Location/Photos/Calendar in device settings). To exercise rights, email info@waseelah.co.uk.

You can lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

Children

Waseelah is a general-audience app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us to remove it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information.

Website (analytics and cookies)

We do not intentionally run advertising or analytics tracking on our website. The website may use essential cookies or similar technologies required for basic functionality and security. If we introduce analytics or non-essential cookies in future, we will update this policy and request consent where required.
